Children's Ministry

About This Ministry: The Children's Ministry supplements the family in their attempt to lay down a spiritual foundation that, in God's timing, will lead a child into a growing, lifelong relationship with God through Jesus Christ. We want to nurture that relationship, and help establish better relationships with others. Our primary dscipleship time for Children is during our Sunday morning worship time.

Service Opportunities: Nursery/Elementary Coordinators, Nursery Staff, Teachers, Assistants, Worship Leader, Administrative Help, Preschool Coordinator, Events Planner, Supply Coordinator, Substitutes, Puppeteers, Trainers.

Leader: Jennifer Ash

"Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6

Children have always been important to God. The Bible is very clear about our need to teach our children the things of God, and that children are a blessing from the Lord. Children have always been important to CPCC. Over the years we have provided quality care, programming, and age appropriate discipleship to help shape the future generation of Christ followers. The Kids' Point Children's Ministry recognizes that the children of today are the parents, politicians, teachers, business people, and leaders of tomorrow. Our children today are our world tomorrow. As such, we aim to love and disciple them in a manner that is relevant to their stage in life and gives them a solid foundation for the future. Our vision for Kids' Point is one where if we change a child for Christ today, we will transform the world tomorrow.

Kids' Point fits into the overarching discipleship paradigm for Colonial Point which is: Discover-Challenge-Change. Our mission is to: Discover the Truth and accept the challenge to make the changes that God wants.

  • Discover: We will discover God through the study of His word. John 1:1
  • Challenge: When we discover the Truth and our place in it, how we live and the choices we make will be challenged. Joshua 24: 14-15
  • Change: When we make choices to follow God's Truth, we will be changed. Matthew 9: 16-17

kidspointgraphic_yIn teaching these characteristics of discipleship, we recognize that no matter the age, discipleship is a never-ending progressive cycle of becoming like Christ in our minds, in our hearts, and in our lives. Two of the ways we foster this is through community groups as well as cell groups that offer multiple opportunities for growth. Each opportunity offers differing levels of: depth; commitment; expectation. This allows for children who are still learning the basics as well as seasoned, 'on-fire' children who want to know more to discover, challenge and change. The goals for our children's discipleship are much the same as our adult discipleship. They include that the children learn to:

  • Meet together regularly to explore and study Gods word; as well as embody what they learn;
  • Invite other to come to church and various activities. Reach out in love to neighbors, friends, and people in the community. Become encouragers and servant minded toward others;
  • Be disciples, and in turn help make dispels.

Statistics show that by the of age nine a child has already formed their moral and spiritual attitudes. Though they will make decisions later in life, for many the foundation is laid early. At CPCC we believe Proverbs 22:6 "Train a child in the way he should go, when he is old he will not part from it." We may not know what the future holds for our young people, but we do know who holds their future. We can give them tools that will shape their life and eternity, and will impact their world for Christ as they grow. Below are some of the ways we accomplish this:

  • Nursery (0-24 months) Newborns to walkers are comforted and cared for in our nursery. We begin with lots of love and care and incorporate special one on one activities and music to provide delightful baby sized fun and learning, too!
  • Toddlers (24 – Pre-K) Children explore Bible concepts, character builders or stories each week.
  • Preschool (Pre-K – Kindergarten) Children learn basic Bible stories and themes through age focused lessons and activities.
  • Early Elementary (Grades 1 -3) Children journey first hand through the Bible. Basic Bible skills and deeper exploration of God's word are integrated into every lesson.
  • Older Elementary (Grades 4 -6) Kids use their Bible knowledge and skills to discuss Biblical as well as practical issues. More Bible skills are integrated into every lesson. In addition, once a quarter a cell group is provided that allows the children to discover, discuss, and grow in issues relevant to being an active Christ follower. The curriculum is specifically written for this age group and challenges them to go places with God that are truly transforming. This helps provide a perfect transition to Youth Groups!

kidspointgraphic_bSummer Activities: VBS, Adventures in the Park, and Mom's Day Devotionals are just a few opportunities our kids have had to discover God's word through fun summer time activities.

We're Always Expanding! Currently Kids' Point is exploring new ways to offer more opportunities for all ages as well as depths of learning for the children. These may include Spring and/or Fall festivities; future sports clubs; mid-week celebrations; Sunday morning fitness and health classes; and other year round opportunities.

Your Child's Safety

We also recognize that God number one commandment is to love Him and love others. So above all, your child's care and safety are our number one concern. We know that a loving, safe, welcoming environment is foundational to providing any kind of programming. Therefore, we have adopted the following safety procedures:

  • Every person who works in the children's ministry submits to a background check which includes a check of the national criminal database and all sexual offenders registries.
  • When you drop your child off, you and your child are given tags with matching numbers. You carry your number with you and the other number is pinned to your child's clothing. Matching the tags at pick-up time ensures that the proper child and parent are paired up.
  • The number tag also serves as a way to call parents in the event of an emergency. A colored box will appear on the screen during the service. When a number is displayed, the parent holding that number must check on his/her child.
  • No child is allowed to leave his/her classroom without a member of the children's ministry staff accompanying him/her.
  • Every classroom has a basic fist aid kit that is checked often and kept up to date.
