When the need for a local support group for those suffering a loss to suicide was identified, The Anchor was established as an outreach program of Colonial Point Christian Church. After several months of prayer and planning with Dave Johnson, the Lead Minister, other church staff and Lead Facilitator for the group, The Anchor held its first meeting on January 13, 2003.

The Lead Facilitator of The Anchor, Nancy Cayward, lost her son to suicide April 27, 2001. Since then she has been connected with two different support groups, which she has found vital to the emotional healing process. Five months after her son’s death, Nancy started attending Colonial Point where spiritual healing began as well. During this time, Nancy has attended leadership training sponsored by The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, been to a leadership workshop and a leadership seminar along with co-leading a small group at church.
