Our Story:

Under the direction of Restoration House Ministries in New Hampshire, and with support from Traders Point Christian Church in Indiana, Pastor Dave Johnson and his family packed up their lives and moved from Indiana to Connecticut in hopes of starting a new church in 1999. They were joined by Tom and Tricia Cater from Illinois, as well as families who had been a part of the former Park Avenue Christian Church in Bloomfield, CT. Together they laid the foundation for Colonial Point Christian Church (CPCC).

In early 2000, after months of preparation, the CPCC team mailed 200,000 invitation postcards to the community, resulting in the first Worship service held on March 5, 2000 in the auditorium of Timothy Edwards Middle School (TEMS) in South Windsor, CT.

Since our launch Colonial Point Christian Church has truly become a community that honors God, reaches out in love and grows in our relationship with Him.

Leadership Team:

Our leadership team recognizes the authority of God, and realizes that we are shepherds who serve under the Chief Shepherd, Jesus Christ. We desire to devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the Word. Our passion and goal is to equip the believers for the work of the ministry until we all attain maturity in the fullness of Christ.

Jim Turney                                                                 Lead Minister

Jim is originally from Clinton, IL. He met his wife while on an internship down in Fayetteville, GA. He brought his southern belle back to the mid west to finish his degree at Lincoln Christian University and started graduate work soon thereafter.

After a short period in the North, they needed to thaw out and Jim took a position as the Student Minister at Capital City Christian Church in Tallahassee, FL.

They ministered there for almost four years and grew the ministry from just a few to over forty.

Jim & Erin felt God leading them north again and took a ministry position as Family Life Minister at Taylorville Christian Church in Taylorville, IL. After almost four years in Taylorville, Jim felt the call to preach. And as of July 2012, Jim has accepted this call with Colonial Point Christian Church to become the lead minister. Jim and Erin have three beautiful little girls named Skye, Noble and Honor.

Adam Colter                    Discipleship Minister

Adam and his wife Sara have been married for 13 years. They have two sons, Kal, age 9 and Kamden, age 6. Adam has been in ministry for 15 years.

Before moving to Connecticut from Newburgh, Indiana, Adam had always been involved in student ministry. Most recently he had been Senior High & College Minister at First Christian Church Newburgh. In January of this year, God placed a clear call on their lives to move to Connecticut and join the work at Colonial Point. Through small steps of faith on our part and big acts of grace by God, we have arrived and are thrilled to be here.

We are renting a house on Main Street in Ellington. My role at Colonial Point is to provide support to the ministry teams, assist in forming and implementing a discipleship strategy for the church and do whatever else needs to be done. We look forward to whatever God is going to do as He continues to bless the church family and ministry of Colonial Point.
