Now that the Christmas season is here, we can start to celebrate the birth of Christ and all that he has done for us. What better way to celebrate that than to give to others. We have several ways to share the spirit of God’s love this year. Our Annual Angel Tree started this week, items are needed for Cornerstone as always, and we also need props for our upcoming Christmas Play. Read below and see where you can help out.

Deuteronomy 16:17 (KJV)

17 Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord thy God which he hath given thee.

ANGEL TREE
Our tree has been decorated with the Angel Tree tags. This is our annual Christmas tradition of gift giving within our church family and community around us. Each tag is a gift that you will purchase and bring back to church by December 17th. Please remember that any tag(s) you take need to be recorded on our Angel Tree sheets so we can ensure all gifts are accounted for by the 17th. See Debbie Apt or Michelle Gaines with any questions.

Jumping to Conclusions

The other day I was helping my kids with there bible study and we were discussing Joshua 22:11-12.

11 And when the Israelites heard that they had built the altar on the border of Canaan at Geliloth near the Jordan on the Israelite side, 12 the whole assembly of Israel gathered at Shiloh to go to war against them.”

I don’t know if you can remember the story of what has been going on, but a couple of the tribes of Israel had moved to the east side of the river and built an altar.  The remaining tribes had jumped to the conclusion that this altar was for sacrifice to the Lord and became very upset.  Turns out, that wasn’t the intention at all,

it is to be a witness between us and you and the generations that follow, that we will worship the Lord at his sanctuary” (vs 26).

So that got me thinking.  How many times in my life have I jumped to a conclusion and ended up with the wrong one.  It was surprising how many examples I was able to come up with.  So next time you are faced with evidence that seems to point in one direction, maybe you should dig a little deeper before going to war.  This could resolve a lot of conflict in this world.

Who needs Christmas?

Just wanted to post an excerpt from our last lesson and remind everyone we will be meeting Sunday night at 6:00 for youth group.  Hope to see you there.

When it comes to the birth of Jesus, there’s so much hardto-imagine stuff.  The Christmas story actually begins with God making an unbelievable, impossible promise.  The Lord said to Abram, “I want you to leave everything you know.” In other words, God said, “Abram, I’m involving myself in your story in an unstoppable way.” I sincerely don’t know how Abraham chose to trust God in that moment, but he did.

It seemed clear that God’s promises to Abraham were a cruel joke. About 1,000 years after God’s promises to Abraham, his descendants finally form the nation of Israel. For the first time, Abraham’s nation was in a position to do something significant in the world. David is followed as king by his son Solomon. 300 years later the northern kingdom, which held on to the name Israel, was invaded by Assyria. Then God sends another prophet, Malachi. Like Isaiah, his words seemed impossible. In every part of the globe where people worshiped, there would be a group of people who recognized the power of God. God’s promise to Abraham seemed as out of reach as it could possibly be.

When everyone had lost hope in God’s promises, God was ready to bless every nation. With no one expecting it, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee. Just like God’s promises to Abraham, what the Angel said next to Mary made no sense. In the end, God did exactly what He promised Abraham. The whole time, God was behind the scenes. He was getting ready for the thing He had planned from the moment sin entered the world and people needed a Rescuer.

So who needs Christmas? God decided that the entire world needs Christmas. Through Christmas—and the story of Abraham—we’re reminded that God is active, even when it seems like He’s not. God didn’t just send Jesus to be the Savior of the world. HE sent Jesus to be the Savior of you and your world.

Christmas is a reminder that even when circumstances seem hopeless, God can be trusted. The world needs hope. It needs Christmas! It needs a Savior and a light!

ThankFULL…

Thanksgiving is Over, Christmas Season Begins!

Thanksgiving is by us, and we pray you all had a blessed day with family and friends. We are finishing the second week of our 40 Day fast. If you have not made a commitment to give something up to spend more time with God, there is always time.
December brings many events for us to take part in at Colonial Point. The Christmas Play is set for Sunday, Dec. 17th at 10:00a.m., and will surely be a great event. The Cornerstone Foundation is always in need of help. We are currently running a food drive, with a list of items on the bulletin board at church. Feel free to donate needed items there, and please ask to find ways you can give back to those in our community.

THANKS FOR THE FAST…

40 Day Fast and Thanksgiving!

Last week, we thanked our Veterans for their service protecting our country and the God given freedoms we all enjoy. The next couple of weeks, we look forward to being thankful for all that we have. One way we do this is through the start of our 40 Day Fast that began this week on Nov. 15th. To fast means to sacrifice something we use every day, or that we truly feel we cannot go without. We sacrifice to gain. Jesus shows us how to give up what we want, to gain what Jesus wants for us. God wants us to care about others like He cares about us. We are giving up something important to us for 40 days so that we can gain a heart for others like Jesus has for us.

We also will be celebrating Thanksgiving next week. There are many ways we can be thankful in our lives. Maybe it’s our family, our health, our jobs, our friends or even for each day God gives us. Being thankful is also about paying it forward; giving thanks to those less fortunate than ourselves, or just in a current need in this time of their life. Thanksgiving doesn’t just need to be about ourselves and how much food we can eat, but reaching out to everyone around us, showing the true light and spirit of God no matter what the situation.

Join us and experience a renewed relationship with God and with others.

James 1:17 – Every good and perfect gift is from above,
coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights,
who does not change like shifting shadows.
